How Do You Get into Selective Schools?
Each year, approximately 1,000 places are available for Year 9 entry across Victoria’s four Selective Entry High Schools (SEHS). Entry is determined through a centralised selection process involving an entrance examination. A small number of places may open for Years 10 and 11, but these are handled directly by individual schools.

Eligibility Criteria
Students must meet strict eligibility requirements before applying
Be in Year 8 (second year of secondary school) at the time of application.
Must not have sat the examination previously for Year 9 entry.
Be one of the following:
- Australian citizen
- New Zealand citizen living in Australia
- Holder of a visa or ImmiCard, exempting them from International Student Fees.
Home-schooled students registered with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority can also apply.
Important Note:
Fee-paying international students enrolled in Victorian schools are not eligible.
Applicants must be able to provide original supporting documents, such as a birth certificate, citizenship certificate, or visa paperwork, if an offer is made.
